Anyone with any long term climate experience noticed early on the spikes caused by impact events in historically recent times.
We simply do not know enough about long term climate cycles to determine the effects of CO2 releases, and certainly we do not know enough to justify spending trillions of dollars modifiying our economy to deal with what may be an illusory problem.
What we do know about the small impact hazard is severe enough to more than adequately justify diverting funds from studying Mars over to finding the next one of these things before it hits.
