Nuclear batteries...

Hi Guys

If the laser effect pans out then maybe hafnium can be used as a nuclear battery - and a rechargeable one. Only problem is the relatively short half-life of Hf 178.

Years ago John Campbell speculated about nuclear batteries in one of his early SF novels - written prior to the discovery of fission. He imagined converting elements then liberating the energy difference. The guy knew a lot of physics even if it was mostly fictional and speculative in his day.

Nuke batteries would solve a lot of problems power-storage wise, if an efficient means of pumping the nuclear states can be found.
