The Tharsis 5000.
I'm assuming you're reffering to the publicity of the LPI paper by Motazedian, or as Nick refers to her, The Bimbo. (I don't know. Nick, care to explain that one?)
From my understanding, the elevation of most are less than the datum (sea level for a world without a sea) surrounding Olympus Mons.
From her abstract:
"The dark streaks always appear on slopes, mostly inside craters and valleys, but also on small hills."
As for the possibility of a MER crawling up the slope to have a taste it's a long drive from Gusev and Terra M to Tharsis but a cool thought nonetheless.
