it's a religious issue
I think people who find the paradox to be either absolute proof that we're alone, or absolutely irrelevant and stupid, are letting their inner faith on the issue of aliens control how they see evidence.
Of course I know we're all influenced by our internal biases, but I think people that are not located at either of those two extremes are doing a better job fighting their bias.
