I and others have pointed out in the past that regardless of global warming, in the long run, petroleum is simply too valuable a resource for industry to simply burn it for fuel. It makes sense to move away from it. Preferably nuclear, unless someone manages to make solar power (either satellite, distributed ground-based, or a combination of both) viable.
