Bastard child of the Green Lantern and Flash?

<I watched a moonsetting from Mauna Kea,,,,,And I SWEAR it did appeaear not only largrer, but orange and elliptical.....the color makes sense the size and shape do not...OK I can come up with reasons for the shape too...

Are you getting some kind of altitude enhanced lensing or something?

I have always been told that the angular span of the moon doesn't change, it is just a trick of perspective that makes it seem larger, like trees or other references tricking the brain ... But I watched it set w/o any references, into the sea.... Any ideas?

Try using a coin at arms length for a fixed scale overhead then on the horiz. The elliptical effect could be playing with your perception.

(As a side note, have any of you seen the "greenflash" at a sunset or sun rise? I have tried MANY times but no luck so far)

Seen some pictures, never been in a cool place like Hawai'i long enough to look.
