I support the farmers at Klamath Lake, but Buck points to a valid issue. This problem is but the most recent in a long history of massive government involvement with the agricultural system in this country. We have created huge sectors of agriculture which are based on government subsidies of one form or another for almost a century. I see no way to easily reverse this, given the huge infrastructure of government-supplied dams, canals, farm subsidies, and other things firmly in place, but I wish it had been done otherwise. I understand that there are many places where infrastructure like dams and canals were privately financed by the end users, but I have no ready examples.
