Fort Carson has it's share of stories. I've lived in Colorado Springs for over 15 years and have never heard that particular one. I don't know if it's an urban legend (seems probable) or if it happened before I arrived.
One of the funniest true stories from Fort Carson happened back in 1987. Seems this Army private and a recently discharged friend got loaded one night and decided to drive to Denver --- in a self-propelled howitzer. The busted through the gates and took off up I-25. The police had no way to stop them so they ended up giving them an unofficial escort to keep other vehicles out of the way. Eventually, they ran out of fuel some distance up the interstate. They were arrested and the private got some serious Leavenworth time. I don't remember what the civilian got but he also spent some time behind bars. Youth, testerone, and alcohol are often a deadly combination.
