Parachute jumps have a bad history

<32 Soldiers Hurt in Parachute Jump

Been there, done that. My unit had one jump were dozens of us were injured. The injuries ranged from sprained ankels to a broken neck. I escaped injury only by putting down in a briar patch. Just about everyone else landed in the trees.

why does the military not use parafoils more? I alwasy thought it would make more sense so the troop would have much better control, be able to land in tighter groups, in mre exact areas and perhaps cut down on the accidents.

parachuting into battle has got to be one of the deadliest emans of deployment, perhaps moreso than an amphibios landing. . . The germans dropping in on crete is probably the best example of jsut how bad it could be, but allied attacks in europe as well were bad. Add to that what you said about injuries sustaned while landing.

Things can go bad quickly and this as a true CF jump. Just goes to show that military service is dangerous even in peacetime. We had a soldier severely injured at Fort Carson yesterday afternoon. We had one die a couple months ago after being struck my lightening on a field exercise.

well its amazing that we'ver found a way to jump out of airplanes with out a 100% casualty rate. Military service is inherently dangerous. It has always been that way and I am sure every soldeir is aware of the likelyhood of something going wrong.

When i was much younger, all I wanted to do was be in the armed forces. . my freshman year in highschool I tried to take the asvab test (they only were interested in sophmores and up). I don't know what happened. my interest quickly dropped in in it. I still considered natl. gaurd. in fact if I wouldn't have to take off a year from college I would have done it. Though I don't know how dangerous being in the 'meteorological' division would have been had I gone throug with it. . . . even thery shoudl be aware of soem danger.
