Voting scheme.

My main concern about the current voter system is the quality of the people voting. Regardless of personal politics, I would not want people voting one way or the other because:

A) they think politician 1 is cuter than politician 2
B) they vote for Politician 2 because he/she is with party 2 and thats what they were raised voting as.
C) people whose preference is based on whims
D) people who don't take election seriously
E) people who cannot make simple arguments for
their ballot of choice (those who can't counter evidence one way or the other).

My answer is simple though of course not perfect, arrange the voting system to where it is a total pain in the butt to vote. Not to vote for anyone in particular rather, like say if you wanted to vote for a 3rd. . .or 98th party in Australia type pain in the butt, but rather a pain in the butt to go to the polls.

you can't make the lines long because that means people just can't vote. . .

What you do is require a large percentage of votes to win, not a 50% majority, but a 55% or 60% majority. . . what if no one gets that majority?!. . .

>:-)

well thats the kicker, you need to hold ANOTHER election! And then ANOTHER! and ANOTHER! Until you tire out the voting population to where only the people who really give a damn are going to the poles.

what are some additional possibilities of this?
-you could make it to where you have to have voted in all the previous election is the series to vote for the next, if you miss one you are out.

-you could make it so that ALL candidates are piled into the list the first time, and cut this pool by 50% each election until you have just two left (unless high majority is reached in a previous one).

-Furthermore because the majority requirement, it prevents situations like the Clinton victory in 92 (Perot), or the Bush victory in 2000 (Nader?), where you could argue a third party took away the votes form the otherwise preferred candidate assuming there were only two left. fighting, or where you could say the majority values were divided among two candidates leaving the minority values to win.

the opposite of this would be Italy, where you are required by law to vote. . . and well, need I say anything more?

Go ahead try to blast it out of the water.
