Deity worship, irrational belief and terrorist attacks

The only thing more nauseating than witnessing the horrific destruction and human carnage on television of late is the constant appeals and references to "God": praying to Him to comfort others (who have had someone they loved roasted alive or crushed to pulp), thanking Him for letting them escape (while He let countless others die in unknowable suffering) etc. This unthinking piety and devotion makes me so angry after this unbelievable and terrible calamity! What is wrong with these people who "have faith" that "there is a plan", that "God moves in mysterious ways" etc? Honestly, if I hear "God Bless America!" one more time, I will scream! If there was some sort of loving, kindly, righteous, noble ethereal entity looking over and caring for America, it would not have allowed this monstrously evil act to occur in the first place! Why did God spare some and not others? It does not make sense - and neither does this whole notion of a benevolent and omnipotent being who "cares", but does nothing to prevent a massacre.

To me, it seems the fanaticism of those who perpetrated these atrocities is almost equally matched in America, from the historical church support of slavery to modern abortion doctor murders - except they think Allah, rather than God, is on their side, will damn the other side to hell etc. History is full of barbaric acts of violence and genocide, instigated by those with one ridiculous "spiritual" belief or another that appoints and anoints them as "the chosen ones", a catalyst for tribalistic/nationalistic fervor and ethnic/racial hatred which flow and mix and build into a murderous tsunami of bloodlust and savagery, engulfing countless millions of victims. The world, civilized or otherwise, will never start on a journey of enduring peace and security until irrational and superstitious belief like Christianity and Islam is abandoned by rational human beings.

Many may think this post sucks, because of its lack of "religious tolerance" or its "sweeping generalizations" or whatever. But people MUST begin to realize what a danger, not only to their own minds, but to the lives of others, a religious or spiritual belief based on medieval mumbo-jumbo or "sacred" teachings can be. All irrational beliefs are equal, since a concept cannot be a "little bit" irrational, like being a "little bit" pregnant. We criticize and/or condemn those who believe the Earth is flat or man never landed on the moon for their ignorance or stupidity, so why condone equally ridiculous ideas like some supernatural superbeing saving you after you die to live forever in some sort of cosmic nirvana?

Nothing should be sacred. Who knows where it may lead. For goodness sake, stop believing in fairy tales and grow up!
