for me, the Holy Bible is good for one thing and one thing only. Reference material. That tome is filled with examples of how we should and should not live -- and, yes, we always have been, and shall remain, or brother's keeper.

There is no way that shutting the world out from us solves a damned thing. If anything, it presents far greater hazards than those we have experienced this week. I like knowing what the dark side of the Earth is up to. I even like it when I travel half way around the world and carry on a polite conversation with a bar-keep, who just happens to have absolutely nothing but pure admiration for the way in which the USA functions.

No. Ducking from the line is no way to ensure peace and tranquility. It's no way to look your young child in the eye and say "Everything's going to be just fine." It's not how we built this nation, but it damned sure is a great way to tear it down.
