We can take on the Iraqis and kick their buts. We did this in the Persian Gulf war and can do it again. However any ground troops that we place in Afganistan are going to get slaughtered. The Afghans are fierce fighters, religious fanatics and have absolutely nothing to lose. They have all the advantages of rugged mountainous terrain, being on the defensive and long combat experience. From what I've read, the Afghans are so dirt poor that one Afghan made a living out of baiting the Soviets into bombing his land so he could collect the iron shrapnel and sell it as scrap metal. We do not want to get in a war with people who have that sort of outlook.
