Many Afghans will in act welcome the removal of the Taliban. There are many ethnic/tribal rivalries in that country and they're far from being a monolithic society of pro-Taliban religious extremists. When they're not fighting outsiders, they're often fighting among themselves.
Overthrowing the Taliban government will be the easy part. They're a far weaker force, with poorer equipment, than say, the Iraqi army. The very tough part will be the constant guerilla attacks, suicide bombers, etc. our forces will face, as well as the difficult task of patching together, with international assistance, some kind of provisional Afghan government we can rely on in the future not to help the likes of Bin Laden.
It's going to be very, very difficult. But it MUST be done - we can't just sit around waiting for those bastards to come back and slaughter 5,000-6,000 more Americans and other nationals.

You're greatly overstating popular support for the Taliban
