And now it begins...

The radical left is finally getting its feet back under it after quailing like vampires in the noonday sun under a wave of patriotism that washed over this country this past week.

Now, as the first emotions begin to fade, the leftists are oozing back over us like warm mud, taking American citizens' righteous anger, desire for justice, feelings of unity, and pride in our country; and replacing them with uncertainty, self-doubt, self-hatred, fear and guilt, which have been their major weapons against us for decades.

They have settled on an course of attack on the United States, and are feeding these mantras into us from the usual sources:

This was not an attack. It was at most a "crime."

This does not warrant military action. Hurting others won't bring anyone back.

Peace is more important than anything else.

We were asking for it.

It was our fault for being stronger and richer than those who committed this "regrettable action."

This is "payback" for all the evil things we have done.

American attacks on other countries have killed many more people than were in the WTC.

Think of the innocent people where our enemies live.

You are not feeling "patriotic"--that's jingoism.

There is no reason to be proud of that flag. The KKK flies that flag.

Americans are wrong. Americans have been responsible for all the evils in this world, including this one.

The totalitarian left knows exactly what it is doing. The old-time dictators were amateurs, using jack boots, tanks, guns, terror, and gas chambers to enslave their victims. The modern radical left knows that if you destroy a person's self-worth and confidence, and replace it with guilt, fear, and self-loathing, then that person will not only forge his own chains and shackles for you, he will shuffle up to you on his knees and beg you to put them on him.

For a good time, and some great examples of the above, try the San Francisco Guardian. Read the links (ignore the various sex links--they're not relevant outside SF)

The media attack--my informal prediction: look for the following in the press over the next few weeks:

- There will be massive coverage of and interviews with people who are uncertain of our military actions, and not sure we have a right to pursue them.

- There will be massive coverage of and interviews with people who will proclaim the vast superiority of the Afghani fighters in their own country, pointing out the failures of other armies. (This is an easy prediction. The press did the same for Saddam's army before Desert Storm.) This is starting already.

- Coverage of the WTC disaster and recovery operations will trickle down to nothing. ABC News has already decided not to show the attack footage anymore. No one is showing footage or photos of the body fragments. The only reason the disaster scene has been shown live on TV is because someone might be found alive, and they have to cover that. Once that hope is gone, the live pictures will be too.

- Footage of people in Afghanistan will increase dramatically. Look for shots of refugees fleeing possible attack, and lots of shots of emaciated children with big, baby-squirrel eyes.

- Anyone in the press who gets wind of a military movement will spread it to the four winds. If someone locates Bin Laden, it will make the front page.

- If there is an attack, in Afghanistan or elsewhere, massive footage of the wounded and dead in the target nation will be shown. You can bet body fragments will show up now.
