But that's different because they're special

Back in 1988 before I ever heard the term "Politically Correct", I was eating lunch with a coworker, a female Captain who was a devout Mormon. She asked a very good question. She asked, "Why is it that I have to walk on eggshells to avoid offending others but they show no hesitation about offending me?"

It's kind of a "heads I win, tails you lose" proposition with some people. They reserve the right to shout down people who hold different opinions but then hide behind "free speech" when someone calls them on their censorship or challenges their opinions. It's more than just a sign of immaturity of young college students, IMO. I see PC as an expression of arrogance where those who disagree are not merely wrong, they're evil. That's only one step removed from the mind set of the old Soviet bureaucrats who put dissidents in mental institutions because anyone who dared disagree with the "workers' paradise" was obviously insane.

The fact that the PC movement is so strong on many colleges is reason for concern. As Lincoln noted, "The philosophy in the classroom of this generation is the philosophy of government in the next."

"Everybody has a right to be stupid, but some people abuse the privilege."
