John Pilger is quite left wing

John Pilger is quite left wing. He's somewhere between a card carrying Communist and an ultra liberal. Do a search on him through Google and you'll find he's consistantly anti-American, anti-Western, anti-capitalist and pro-liberal/socialist/communist. He's intelligent and seems well educated. He comes across like a Noam Chomsky but not as bright and without the academic credentials. Apparently Chomsky is a role model of sorts for Pilger. Bottom line concerning Pilger: He's almost lunatic fringe. His opinions are his own and carry no real weight.

Now the $64,000 question: Why did the "Guardian" publish Pilger's Op-Ed piece? Does the editor of the "Guardian" have an axe to grind or was this simply to induce controversy?
