Re: The money trail...

Cutting off the money supply is one of the more important aspects on any serious "war on terrorism." Bush announced today that we're going to seize the assets of suspected terrorist organizations in the US. However, for any such effort to have any chance of success, it'll need to be an international effort directed at the countries where secret bank accounts are the norm. As much as I hate to see any erosion of privacy, I support the idea that harboring a terrorist group's money is little different than harboring the group itself. Does that mean I'm advocating targeting the Swiss and others who have strict banking secrecy laws? Not necessarily, but at the same time I do see the need to apply some form of pressure on them, perhaps in the form of trade restrictions. The FBI and CIA are working with international police and intelligence agencies to track the money supply. This won't be easy. The entire hijacking effort on Sept 11th might not have cost a million dollars including all of the flight training, travel, and living expenses.
