That's because men can't get pregnant. If they could, there would be no discussion.
The reason this is an 'issue' is that we have a fundamentally puritanical society obsessed with sex. And sexual obsessions can easily be harnessed for political reasons. Look at how some fundamentalist Muslims treat women, and how their leadership harnesses that frustration. The same thing happens here, but we are civilized and have to make excuses.
Underneath all this economic, medical, ideological, political and constitutional handwaving and hypocrisy is that some people simply can't stand the idea that someone out there might be getting away with getting laid without having to pay a price for their "sin".
That's why we are constantly debating abortion, contraception, sex education, even pornography and censorship. These people are just sniffing drainpipes.
Maybe we should shove an ultrasound probe up their ass and force them to watch so they could all see how totally full of shit they are.
