Yes, there is probably intelligent life out there.
Those of us who consider such things have known for a long time that all SETI looks at are signals directed specifically to Earth. That is not likely to ever result in any kind of contact.
We can't/don't broadcast signals because that would not be smart and the capability to expand our search is limited by funding and known science. It is reasonable to conclude that any intelligent species out there would also be reluctant to reveal themselves to an unknown intelligent species unless they are so advanced they feel invulnerable to any species with bad intentions.
This being the case, the only reasonable hope of finding intelligent life is to have the ability to reach out for random signals not intended for us. If and when we have the ability to find and interpret those signals we may find intelligent life but it might be long dead when we find it.
The only real possibility without completely new science is to find something relatively close. A hundred or so ly or less, perhaps. Even that would be little more than very interesting since reasonable communication would be impossible.
Pessimism is the correct conclusion
