Yeah, I know its grim, but the more I think about it the more I tend to weigh what's likely, rather than what's possible.
My objections to a Galaxy crowded with commerce and communication are more due to statistical considerations than physical ones.
It's not what I want, its where my logic inevitably leads me. ETI is not impossible, just unlikely. The speed of light is a real bitch, too.
Still, nature has a way of surprising us. We always tend to underestimate it. There is reason for hope yet.
