The feds have banned small planes from flying within 10 miles of nuclear power plants. I'm not certain what they're worried about. "60 Minutes" recently broadcast footage from a 1979 test where a 40,000 pound F-4 was accelerated to 400 MPH on a test track and slammed into a sample containment building. The plane didn't penetrate more than an inch the 6 foot thick reinforced concrete. I'm not certain what a Cessna would do, probably no more than leave a paint mark. Still, rules are rules and they'll vector in a fighter to discourage anyone from violating this TFR. I just wish I knew the reasoning behind it, if any.
Just when we're finally getting the airspace system back towards normal, we have some bonehead pull a stupid teenaged boy trick and undermine all of us pilots. The kid just got his pilot's license 5 days ago. Something tells me it'll be a while before he gets to fly again.
Small planes still give the government the willies
