ABC news tonite had a short segment on the issue of aircraft impacting containment domes, and showed that video of the F-4 whacking into the slab of concrete. I didn't see any aviation fuel fire.
The domes feature 12 ft. thick reinforced concrete. According to an authority who spoke briefly - I think it was the head of the NRC - there has been no comprehensive engineering study done on this problem.
Also mentioned: The French are posting AAA and other defenses around some of their nuclear facilities. The United States apparently has not yet implemented wartime defensive posture around our facilities.
I agree that it will much more difficult to repeat the same kind of attack with hijacked airliners, but the issue of airport security remains. It's time to get some pros in there, and not rely on minimum wage people with their high turnover, criminal records, and poor performance on tests. It's also past time to review all of the flightline support people and make them pass through security screening, as well.
My suggestion: assign airport security to the Air Force.
