Re: Today, my friend Jim and I are tracking the elusive ball . . .

<What's your opinion of teaching birth control in sex ed classes in junior high school?

Okay by me. Depends on the curriculum, and what attitudes they are trying to push (See "Sex and the City" above). However, if the kids haven't already gotten this information at home, someone is dropping the ball.

It is also possible the ball is either ducked or refused. Sex education in the classroom seemed the norm for me back in the late 60s. Since then, America appears to have has rediscovered her freedoms, one of which is control over what their children are taught in school. I’ve seen in the news where astrology gets a far larger vote as a true course in education than science these days.

Sometimes, no matter how you fight to get that horse to the watering hole, he just ain’t thirsty -- unless you somehow flavor the water with some tasty, but pointless, ingredient.

Teen pregnancy is still a big problem. It has diminished ‘slightly’ in recent years, but it remains at the forefront of problems facing kids growing up in this country. It is time for a national vote on subject, not a local vote, and if the parents continue their battle against sex ed in the schools, then I say let them take it up with an expensive private school, or through the burdens of home education. The public schools of America should be open to the mainstream public, with real classes that cover real topics regarding real life in America, and the world at large.

Well, it’s Sunday, and I’m outa here,
Dan
