Hi Guys
Been thinking about the impending energy crises that will scar the early decades of this century. I have argued with different friends over nuclear power's merits, but Australia is solidly overtaken by the no-nukers.
Perhaps rightly so - we have a big solar, wind and tidal potential, plus a lot of coal, gas and oil-shale.
My State Government and others would like to see a big ethanol industry here, and I'd like to see a switchover to ethanol-powered fuel-cells in cars once such are cheap enough. Then we could be totally renewable. Oil ain't cheap anymore.
But nuclear power is taboo and I'd like to see that change. Coal and gas just won't do it alone, while wind and solar are years off.
Recently a Uranium mine in South Oz has leaked some process water and lots of people have been waving the "radiation bogey" around.
What can the nuke industry do to allay public concern? And what can we do to make things safer? Any ideas?
