$20,000 in taxes? Is that all or is that just federal income tax? For my wife and myself, the total damage is over $40,000 in taxes each year. That includes:
federal income tax
state income tax
Social Security tax
Medicare tax
property tax
gasoline tax
sales tax
vehicle use tax
utilities taxes on electricity, water, and gas
phone taxes
Note, those are just some of the visible taxes that quickly came to mind. That's by no means a complete list and it doesn't even begin to cover the estimated 40% of everything we buy that makes up corporate taxes that get buried in the cost of products. And to think, there are those who'd call me "greedy" for believing $40,000 a year in taxes is too high. Funny how they're never called greedy for demanding ever increasing shares of my income to spend on their pet projects.
