Re: Umm-m . . .

<Just look at the freakin' INS debacle, issuing the visas to KNOWN terrorists well AFTER 911!

Um, in all fairness, the approval and issue was completed by the INS well before Sept 11, and well before any law enforcement agency associated them with terrorist activity. The only newsworthy item in the article was the amount of time it took to deliver the visas.

As a side note, a local Elvis fan here in Central Ohio received a letter from The King two years ago, complete with autographed photo. Some things just take a little time.

And what happened to the INS folks responsible? Literally nothing as some political job transfers were made, that's all.

I must have missed the transfer part, but I would think the transfers would be more from a result of the system than any activity of the individuals. Are you suggesting they should be punished for following procedures?

Govt employees know that if they're caught red handed screwing up that nothing of consequence will happen to them. Private industry employees face loss of jobs.

Um, not entirely true, on either side of that fence you just built. Government employees do lose jobs, just as private sector employees do not.

To answer you closing question, however, I would have to go with a private agency.
