That would be one of many

From what little I've read on the Patriot Act, there seem to be some very questionable parts from a Constitutional viewpoint. Overreactions in the name of the "don't just sit there, outlaw something" mindset common in Congress almost always turn out bad. The same applies, IMO, to many of the questionable laws passed in the name of various "wars", like the "War on Crime", the "War on Drugs", and maybe even the "War on Poverty."

According to this source the final vote in the Senate on the bill (S. 1510) was 96 to 1. The vote in the House on H.R. 2975 (or H.R. 3108, the "new" version of H. R. 2975) was 337-39 according to this source.

We'd clean out almost all of Congress if we held them to the Constitution. Works for me! Over the years, Congress and different presidential administrations have trampled on a lot of the Constitution, IMO. It wouldn't be hard to argue that at different times, the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 13th (the draft), and 14th Amendments have been trampled.
