Having a tank throw a track will cut its maneuverability quite a bit, but not necessarily stop it. I wouldn’t mind chewing up a few road wheels if it’ll get me and my crew out of a life-threatening situation. Now, in an isolated incident, you might be able to catch a tank in this manner and just wait it out, picking off the crew later as they try to unass the vehicle.
...But then, the limited battlefield of Israel doesn't leave much room for a tank and crew to ever become the typical "isolated in combat" victims. Without serious armor weapons, the Hamas is actually following a good tactic -- provided they actually are following some kind of plan -- and that’s to just lay low and let them destroy what they want, then start all over with more suicide bombers.
Seems odd they’re willing to sacrifice Arafat, though...
