It is worth remembering that Israel conquered these territories during battles for its very existence against several nations attacking it with the intent to obliterate Israel for all time. People make it sound like everyone was just sitting around reading a magazine when suddenly Israel decided to occupy the West Bank.

It's also worth noting that Syria has been occupying Lebanon for years, and oppressing the Palestinians there, and no one seems to care.
