To face it directly...

There are several reasons that Americans might not be as interested in Columbian violence:

- A major ally is not affected.
- It does not significantly threaten our oil supply.
- It is not associated with the 9/11 attack.
- It is not associated with "the axis of evil".
- The president does not care enough about it to rush Secretary Powell to the scene.
- Sad to say (Lliterally. This is a severe but true slam on Americans.), we don't care much about South America.
