Gee, I don't see the problem. If, as you constantly seem to imply, the camps were filled with innocent, unarmed civilians instead of armed combatants, who would there be to shoot through a door? These "human shields" were in no danger at all, unless someone inside had a very mean dog.

Destroying civilian property for the sake of depriving civilians of shelter is considered a war crime by civilized peoples. Emphasis - civilized.

When it's filled with soldiers, weapons caches, and booby traps it ain't civilian property no more. The bulldozers were brought in because Israelis were being slaughtered by traps and guns going "door to door."

Many towns in Europe and elsewhere in WWII suffered for similar reasons. If a German platoon was hiding there, it wasn't civilian property.
