None of these groups emerged until quite recently, and they have always tapped widely held anger at Israel's actions to gain support. Rhetoric aside, the populations as a rule do not want to live backwards lifestyles.
By the way, there were Islamic socialist groups which also tapped this same anger, and also used terrorist tactics - I currently have no idea what their status is, or what they're up to. And it does not take too many people to really ruin one's day.
