The analogy is not perfect.
As examples Pat & Jerry are probably not the worst Christians we could have chosen. Likewise, neither lives in a country that is largely religion-based. If either had lived in Crusader-Roman Catholic times or in Inquisition-Spain times, their "idiosyncracies", given free reign, might very well lead to acts that Saddam would be proud of.
But the main point that keeps getting ignored is that it is *not* Islam. It is some bad apples in the bunch.
