<Think about this: if Texas government were shown to be corrupt, and the people from Vermont constantly pointed it out, would the Texans be more likely to bow before the superior wisdom of the Vermonters, or would they circle the wagons? I'm betting on the wagon-circling. Likewise, if the Christian West continues to tell the world that Islam causes violence, corruption and hatred, moderate Muslims will be more likely to adopt a defensive posture, and be less willing to examine the weaknesses of their societal and religious structure.

So, if buildings are blown up in Vermont, and the bombers are from Texas, and airplanes are hijacked and flown into buildings, and the hijackers are Texans, and certain Texans call for the annihilation of everyone who isn't from Texas,* what happens then?

I have hopes as well that moderates will eventually win out, but I'm not seeing lots of signs of it so far.

*Actually, historically, this last is very likely to have happened more than once. ;)
