Re: Another

<You seem to be sneering at the people who weren't born here. Read your post. You sneer at them, or if you were, that's what it would look like...

...Do you think you are a smarter, harder-working, more noble person? I promise you've never seen work like they do, you've never seen scrambling like they have to. And they are as smart if not smarter than you and me.

What did you have to do with the system into which you were born? Nothing. They didn't either, and that's what is not fair. Thank God.

Did you read my post? I never claimed any innate superiority due to the good fortune of being born in the U.S. I believe I mentioned "luck." Once that happened, and I was raised by a good family, I like to feel that I have had some small part in my success since then. If you need an exact quote:

"Suffice it to say that yes, they are as smart and as skilled as we are, and when someday they lose their chains, they will do quite well too."

I may not have been around when our nation's principles of freedom were laid down, but I'm here now to help see that they stay that way in the face of a leftist onslaught. If I sneer at anyone, it's the jackasses (not you) who spit on capitalism and freedom, and hold up the poverty-ridden nations ruled by totalitarian collectivist thugs as an example of how we should be going about things.

You keep touting that system, and somehow you seem to resent having to pay for it.

You somehow think it should be given to you, so that you and your hard work can prosper without interference (paying for the system). Kind of like wanting a car, but not wanting to pay for the roads and fuel. Or the car.

The system I "tout" is not exactly the system we are currently working with, but at least it's closer than anywhere else.

Your faith that somehow it is the taxes paid to our government that are the main reason for our economic prosperity is touching, and typical. Certainly those in power approve of this belief and will do nothing to discourage it. I won't try to convince you otherwise, except to point out that across the planet, prosperity of nations does not seem to proportional with the power and size of their governments. If anything, it's an inverse relation.

A government of a free society protects the rights of its citizens, and protect us from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and I do not resent the taxes paid for these limited purposes. I do resent the taxes that are immediately plopped into someone else's pocket (from welfare bums all the way up to Archer Daniels Midland CEO bums) in return for votes. A vast majority of our taxes now fall into this category, and that is why I get a bit pissed when the Democrats say it still ain't enough.
