Re: Oriana Fallaci

<Oriana's book has not been censored in France (yet) because it appears to incite into fierce debates about how to react towards the book and its content.

Thank God for the First Amendment. And thank Raoul for the link to this great piece.

It's not surprising that the usual anti-Western suspects have been spitting all over it. What is ghastly is that many of these have been Americans and Europeans.

An article from the Guardian. Anyone else remember the controversy when that poor Italian PM had the misfortune to observe that modern Western culture is superior to modern Islamic culture?

Well, it is.

By almost any standard that can be measured in any way, Western culture is the clear superior of Islamic culture.

A congenital idiot could come to this conclusion simply by observing all the nations run by Islamic tenets vs. the nations run on Western principles. The treatment of their citizens, their standards of living, respect for individual rights, their technological progress, and tolerance of other religions--all of this speaks for itself.

And don't tell me about how they invented the zero. That was over 600 years ago. Try and think of one major scientific innovation that has come out of an Islamic-ruled nation recently. Try and think of a product, other than oil, that comes out of such nations. It isn't the people--many of them emigrate to the West and do just fine in the innovation department, thanks. It's the system, and the culture.

Now flame away.
