<Even the most insightful, intelligent liberals can't seem to get past the basic feeling that most people are stupid, and need to be "forced" into the proper actions.
You know... we could go completely laissez faire about education, the way things used to be before it became mandatory (was it "liberals" that did that?). Nobody forced into anything, in that particular regard, including literacy or skills. Wanna live in that America, Tom? I don't. I don't want to live in a country where dogma overrules empiricism... but now that the Supremes have cleared the way for the fringe groups, there will be more of that.
I realize there are all sorts of alternative schools, not all religious - and that of the religious ones, many are mainstream in terms of what they teach as fact. This, however, is the proverbial can of worms, with some predictable wrigglers emerging. I hope it's confined to a very few, so as to have a minimal effect on the future of this country (let alone whichever part of it I occupy) - especially regarding America's ability to interact with the rest of the planet's population.
Most people aren't stupid, but everyone is born ignorant. A saddeningly large number of us already remain so - this development will make it easier to more to remain so deliberately.
