The "they're going to do it anyway" argument misses the entire point of moral training.
Just because what you tell them may not prevent them from doing something wrong does NOT mean that you turn around and say, "oh, well, since it's pointless anyway, here's your bag of condoms."
You're the parent. You need to draw the lines. Kids NEED the lines, whether they cross them or not. It's hard to explain.
It's like the Playboy magazines hidden in the bottom drawer of Dad's dresser. You know they're there, you know Dad would yell at you for looking at them, but you sneak peeks when you can.
Dad knows perfectly well you're doing this, and if you had more sense than a kid usually has, you would know he knows.
The point is, the rule is there. You're busting it, but the rule is there, and you know you're busting a rule. Dad doesn't say, "what the hell, he's going to look at them anyway, might as well get him his own subscription."
You can't always keep your kids from going off the road, but you sure as hell can tell them where the guardrails are. And what the hell, maybe they will just say no.
When my parents were kids, students who got knocked up in high school were objects of shame. They KNEW they had done something wrong, and so did everyone else. Liberals are aghast at this "dark age" attitude, and push for high school day care.
Yeah, kids were unwed mothers in the 1950s. But one hell of a lot fewer of them. Teenagers are no more horny now than they were then. You tell me what's changed.
And don't get me started on why AIDS turned out to be an epidemic in America.
