<Conservatives, who fought so hard against the feminist movement and women's rights from way, way back want to shove them down the throat of Third World countries, religious convictions be damned.

I read the article twice. Now, I may have missed something...I'm a fast reader...but I didn't see even the slightest mention of conservatives or Republicans in the whole thing, much less the conservatives being instrumental in "shoving" feminists down Afghanistan's throat. Unless you are assuming that Oprah is a right winger, or that Bush and Ashcroft enthusiastically support "The Vagina Monologues" and the rock band "Star Vomit."

The whole article is basically leftists knocking heads with other leftists, with RAWA even called "Maoist" in so many words.

...The average Afghan, male or female, wants to be left the hell alone to live their life. Ain't interested in your conservative ideas, my liberal ideas, or GWB's Daddy's pride or oil.

I'd agree with you there, and would go further to say that probably most of the people on this planet fall into a similar category. In any case, I don't think there's a hell of a lot of oil in Afghanistan, and if there were, it's a good bet not too many of the oil bucks would end up in the hands of the average Afghan.
