Unspecific Threats.

When someon tells you "Something big" is about to happen and it's "imminent" but can't tell you more - there is not much you can do.

Every day there are such warnings. Hundreds if not thousands of them. Some from cranks, some from very unreliable sources who want attention or to be paid. In the pre 9-11 world and even now most of these warnings lead to nothing. 99.9 % of them are bogus or do not transpire. So if you expect Condoleeza to pull a rabbit out of a hat and guess which one's are credible and which ones are not - it aint gonna happen.

The White House, CIA and Pentagon are overloaded with data - much of it pure static often generated by folks to keep things off balance. As a result very strict policies had been developed for acting on tips. Specific information was one of the requirements. Vague warnings only serve to keep people in a state of fear needlessly. Much like the story of the boy who cried wolf - many of these folks have predicted disasters before and nothing came of them. That makes them even less reliable and less likely to be given any precious time.

Condoleeza, George and the rest of Bushs team are spectacular. They do the job wonderfully. Tenet helped orchestrate the landing of the first teams in Afghanistan and we see how successfully the Taliban were routed with extremely minimum casualties.

They will almost definitely be present for both of Bush's terms.

As you would say, "Sorry Charlie."
