Re: Press prejudice.

<IF there is a bias, maybe it has something to do with the journalists being bright, literate, articulate and very familiar with the issues. Or, bias might be built into the conservatives view of the world.

Might have more to do with truth, facts and fairness as seen by folks who see the entire world than prejudice.

Most graduates of journalism school don't seem to have the intelligence to chew gum and walk at the same time. Ask anyone who is intimately involved with any news situation that has later been covered by the media, and see what he says about "accuracy" and "familiarity with the issues."

Only six percent of the media identify themselves as conservatives. That has to say something to any reasoning mind about bias.

A communist teaching Marxist theory is regarded as heresy (as if anyone could teach it better). If capitalism is that much better, there should be no threat from teaching communism.

A Nazi teaching Nazi theory in any school would be, properly, hauled out and run out of town on a rail, yet exactly the same arguments you make about its "harmlessness" should apply. Hypocrisy. The truth is that the universities LIKE Marxism.

Conservatives regard teaching about Islam in schools as wrong, even though the US seems to be at war with much of the Islamic world.

Conservatives regard teaching about Islam in schools, when the merest mention of Judeo-Christianity causes red alerts, as hypocritical. Equal treatment would be nice.

I think a liberal would regard it as an asset to know and understand others, most especially if it is an enemy.

Understanding is not the same as abandoning all moral or other judgments. There is a thin line between an open mind and a hole in the head. Once you have "understood" that someone wants you and your kids dead, you can proceed from there.
