Re: Assumption and accusation . . .

<One of the world's most respected statesmen, Nelson Mandela, has condemned United States intervention in the Middle East as "a threat to world peace".

And when the Middle East intervenes in the United States, such as taking down an internationally populated World Trade Center on U.S. soil, the United States should complain to...?

Sorry, we don't work that way. Al-Quai'da begged for our intervention.

He also assumes that the Middle East’s hatred of the West has nothing to do with any history prior to 1700. That the Arab world hates is Pavlovian, a reflex action that needs to be trained out of them. A frightening Ben Bova “THX 1138” concept, but true nonetheless. The hate is ingrained, and started at an early age. By the time a child is seven-years-old, it’s there.

"If you look at those matters, you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace," he said.

The above refers to U.S. activity in Iran (1953), and Afghanistan against the USSR, as well as the failure on the part of the U.S. to help Afghanistan overcome their own victory.

Assumptions:
* Iran was fine in its previous state, which it readily reverted to -- so there should be no complaint today
* The Soviet Union should have been allowed to invade a defenseless Afghanistan

He also completely skirts the issue regarding U.S. intervention in Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, and the U.N.’s insistence that Israel exist at all.

"It is clearly a decision that is motivated by George W Bush's desire to please the arms and oil industries in the United States of America," he said.

A baseless, conspirator theorist's accusation (yeah, I said the ol’ coot was gullible).

He said that no evidence had been presented to support the claim that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction, while former UN weapons inspector in Baghdad Scott Ritter has said there is no such evidence.
"But what we know is that Israel has weapons of mass destruction. Nobody mentions that," he said.

That Israel has WMD is mentioned all the time. It’s common knowledge.

Ritter resigned his clearance in 1998. A lot has changed since, as pointed out by his own ex-boss:

Iraq could produce a nuclear bomb within six months if it acquired core materials on the Russian black market, the former head of the United Nations weapons inspection team, Richard Butler, has said.

Mr. Mandela recalled that Mr. Cheney had been opposed to his release from prison.

Poor little axe-grinder,
Dan
