Re: Roots of European Appeasement

Algeria's GIA is still a threat. It operates in our countries, under cover. Some get arrested, others are followed.

I can't believe Americans are willing to go after all the dictatorships, one after the other.

In Europe, we faced terrorism, but on a smaller scale, which meant we never raised an army and attacked a country just because a little less than a hundred inhabitants were terrorists.
If the US attacks a country, it will incite more hatred and it's going to be playing at catch 22.
More terrorism will emerge inciting more invasions etc....In french we say: Qui sème le vent, récolte la tempête: Who sows the wind, reaps the storm.

The Iraqis are faced with a totally mad situation: the embargo will be lifted only when the inspectors will be satisfied no WMD's are hidden anywhere in schools, hospitals, appartments, parks, military bases etc...It will take ages. And in the mean time, they go on suffering, under the embargo.

The current US policy reminds me of a child who has been abused and later becomes an abuser himself.
