<Our object now, as then, is to vindicate the principles of peace and justice in the life of the world as against selfish and autocratic power and to set up amongst the really free and self-governed peoples of the world such a concert of purpose and of action as will henceforth ensure the observance of those principles. Neutrality is no longer feasible or desirable where the peace of the world is involved and the freedom of its peoples, and the menace to that peace and freedom lies in the existence of autocratic governments backed by organized force which is controlled wholly by their will, not by the will of their people.

Of course like most good orators - he can talk out of both sides of his mouth equally effectively:

My thought is of America. I am speaking, I feel sure, the earnest wish and purpose of every thoughtful American that this great country of ours, which is, of course, the first in our thoughts and in our hearts, should show herself in this time of peculiar trial a Nation fit beyond others to exhibit the fine poise of undisturbed judgment, the dignity of self-control, the efficiency of dispassionate action; a Nation that neither sits in judgment upon others nor is disturbed in her own counsels and which keeps herself fit and free to do what is honest and disinterested and truly serviceable for the peace of the world.



Shall we not resolve to put upon ourselves the restraints which will bring to our people the happiness and the great and lasting influence for peace we covet for them?



For the record this is from Wilson's appeal to peace less than three years earlier. And for the record, he too, felt as you all do about restraint, peace, etc. Then after enough hostile actions towards the US - his views evolved and he saw that peace was not the answer, but would only lead to more suffering.

However, this time it would not be a few hundreds Americans lost to submarine warfare but hundreds of thousands lost to weapons of mass destruction, which will change some antiwar folks views.

We can't afford to wait for his arsenal to materialize. We know his nature. We can accurately predict the future of a nuclear armed Iraq with Saddam at the helm.

The future is written in blood, in countless deaths and nuclear destruction of the middle east. Is this truly what you are fighting for? You probably think it is not.

Each day we wait has potentially catastrophic consequences for humanity - just as Wilson's good intentions contributed to the loss of hundreds of thousands of the lives of our allies.

Iraq has fired on our planes more times than Kaiser Wilhelm's submarines fired upon our ships. The intent was very clear - to kill our people and defy the UN resolutions which were imposed to protect the Kurds from Saddam's wrath.

Bowser does not talk of this, Lindy does not talk of this, Mary Anne does not talk of this and Splinx does not talk of this.

The no fly zones are simply there to keep Iraqi planes from strafing Kurdish villages, dropping gas and killing thousands. Yet this is never addressed. It almost makes me believe that all of you believe that Saddam is "asserting his sovereign right" to shoot at allied planes and that we are somehow the oppressors for protecting the Kurds.

The no-fly zones cost us billions of dollars. We achieve no tactical benefit other than the protection of the Kurds from air strikes. Yet over two hundred times in the past year Saddam has fired at our planes.

I ask you...are these the acts of a man seeking peace, the actions of a man who wants the sanctions lifted so that his people can prosper?

If you can answer yes to this question, than your claims have validity.

If the answer is no - than you can see, as I and others here do, (or Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld and President Bush) that Saddam has absolutely no interest in peace, snipes at us as he is yet capable, manipulates the UN to defer attacks, all while biding his time to wreck mass destruction and havoc against the US and Israel.

The media plays down Saddam's acts of war against the US,and yes against the UN itself. This war is played up as a pre-emptive war - it is nothing of the kind!

This war will be the direct result of Saddam's acts of war against the United States, its allies and the UN.

It is not some pre-emptive war for oil, justified under the threat of WMD.

It is not us being manipulated by Israel.

It is not a part of some program for a New World Order.

It is very clear cut to those who know and understand the facts of the matter.

In time...you all, and many others around the US who share similar positions, will agree.
