As long as we're discussing the fall of the Roman Empire, let's not forget the role of "bread and circuses."
Over half the Federal Budget--over a trillion dollars--is entitlements of one form or another. This doesn't even count what the States spend. I would appreciate it if you also taught children the results of making large segments of the population in a democracy wards of the state.
