If the only issue seems to be replacing Saddam, who will replace him?
Suppose democracy is imposed unto the Iraqis. Will they accept it? Even if they did, will they accept someone who is too western-lenient for them? He'd be quickly replaced by someone who is more Iraqi-lenient (knowing how long the sanctions have lasted and the threats of war and the expected damages to occur from the war, I'm not going to expect them to love us). Even if the next Iraqi head of state is very moderate, he won't extend his arms to Sharon.
