A small part.

Bush's playing to his extremist fundamental right-wing Christian base has all manner of implications for humanity, in the bigger chunks and the smaller. He's terrified of his base, and with some justification.

In the last election conservatives were so sick of Clinton, again with some justification, that they were willing to play along with his sounding somewhat moderate. ("I'll pursue a humble foreign policy.") They correctly read the 'winks', that when he got into office he'd "come home".
He's successfully betrayed the middle, moderate voters.

Between his policies, and Ashcroft as High Priest carrying them out and creating his own, they will drag the US back to the 15th Century if they can.

Remember the Inquisition? Religious bigots, who didn't regard people who weren't the proper Christians as people.

And in effect declared war on Islam.

That's what they've done. Scary people. If the US gets to vote he'll be gone. That's a big "if", considering how Florida is perfecting disenfranchising techniques. And if Bush can declare martial law for some silly reason.

And, money buys elections. The rich folks to whom he's beholden are busy shovelling money into Republican campaigns. Successfully.

The US is in for a heckuva ride!

Arf (Bush can fool some of the people all the time.)
