It's easy to criticize Putin's actions but a lot harder to come up with viable alternatives. European style appeasement wouldn't work with the terrorists and they were threatening to kill all the hostages. They did kill at least one hostage, a defenseless 20 year old woman, and reports indicate they may have began killing the others when the gas was release. Quick, what would you do?
