In Europe you simply have to announce a protest and you can get 50,000 to arrive without even knowing what's being protested.
In areas where the weather is lousy and folks deal with depression and vitamin D deficiency, protests are a daily occurence. If you visit Frankfurt you can find a protest scheduled almost daily outside the Goethe Universitat. The average age of the protesters is 23 and they are still compensating for their feelings of impotency.
Protesting Globalisation
Protesting Fur
Protesting the G7
Protesting USA
Protesting McDonalds
Protesting GM foods
Protesting Hunger
Protesting China's treatment of Tibet
Protesting, Protesting, Protesting...
Show me the few of these folks who will still be protesting in seven years - and you will have the ne'erdowells rounding up the next group of kiddies and misfits needing to feel empowered.
The businesses in Florence pulled down their steel window shields and locked up their shops to be with their wives and kids...obviously they don't trust these infamous "peaceful" protesters - who less than a year ago caused untold bloodshed in Italy.
Mobs are mobs. Protesters like to be part of a mob, for the reasons I mention above - individual feelings of impotency. In Europe the males have often been emasculated by socialism and PCthink - this is often the only way they can assert themselves.
It seems terrible to point these things out...but my Grandfather had a saying when he lived across from the Universitat and would look out the window and would see the endless banners hanging from the windows,
"Es ist Freitag. Sie müssen Schweinefleisch protestieren."
(It is Friday - they must be protesting pork.)
